Ministry to children beyond Nursery age at the Parish of the Good Shepherd centers on the Godly Play method and is intended to allow children to discover God in a way that is appropriate for them.
Developed over the past 30 years, the Godly Play program is directly inspired by the Montessori approach to education and believes that children learn through all of their senses and not only through sight and sound. There is no classroom; there is a rich, interactive learning environment designed to provide both the children and their parents with a deep experience of God.
Designed for children 4 to 12 years of age, the Godly Play approach is now widely used across the US and the UK. The Parish has used the Godly Play method since 2009 and regularly conducts Godly Play training sessions for other churches and dioceses.
There are nine accredited storytellers at the parish and two certified trainers who oversee training across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Throughout the year there are also many events for children and their families in our parish and they include both a Children's Christmas Pageant and a Children's Eucharist at Christmas, as well as other special services like Good Friday and Thanksgiving that involve our children. Children are also involved in our liturgy in a special way every Easter. Check Weekly Bulletin or Facebook for updates and events.
